Elec Guitar

Guitar effects are an important part of the life of any electric guitarist. However, most beginners have very little knowledge about effects. Effects are electronic devices that modify or moderate the sound, tone or pitch of an electric guitar. Effects are used in many popular genres of guitar music like rock, heavy metal, blues, etc. They are housed in guitar pedals, amplifiers, simulation software and rack mount processors or preamplifiers. There are different types of effects. Here's a brief look at them.
Distortion effects related to
Distortion is an effect that is commonly used in rock and heavy metal guitar. A distortion pedal used to create this effect clips and distorts the signal waveform leading to a distortion in the sound. There are many different types of distortion effects. Each has its own distinct features and characteristics.
• Distortion Overdrive: This is one of the best known distortion effects. Most pedals that provide the attempt to create a sound distortion High grain. Some advanced distortion amplifiers like Marshall, have moved beyond the normal point of tonal break and create a sound called as saturated grain also called the total distortion in some cases. Some common distortion pedals are Guv'nor Marshall, Pro Co Rat, Digi Tech Hot Tech
• Fuzz: Fuzz pedals were originally created to recreate the classic sound of tube amp overdrive of 60 combined with broken speaker cones. The original fuzz pedals have been replaced by extreme models that have an impact as the eighth, synchronization, etc. Dallas Fuzz Face is one of the most commonly used effects pedals Fuzz.
• Hi Gain: This effect originated from the high-gain amplification used in electric guitars. In terms of guitar regular elections, a high-gain sound is produced by the saturated amplifier tubes or a distortion pedal. The sound produced is very thick. The modern high-gain pedals produce a sound that is unmatched and can not be produced from any other device. Boss ML2 Metal Core is a very common effect of high gain pedal.
Filtering-related effects with
• equalizer: An equalizer is used to adjust the frequency response in a variety of frequency bands. From a graphic equalizer which is a feature common in most music player software interface provides a slider to different frequency regions. In guitars, a knob is available at the place of these sliders and change the level of the frequency band.
• Phase shifter: Have you ever heard a sound for a guitar concert which is similar to the sound of an airplane flight? That is what a phase shifter can do for you. The effect is commonly known as phase.
• Wah Pedal: Like that the name, this foot operated pedal can create a sound that is similar to a man saying wah. The sound is heard more often in the psychedelic rock of the years 1960 and funk music of the 1970s.
Volume-related effects
• Volume Pedal: This is nothing but a potentiometer driven by the foot that can be tilted forward or backward. A musician can easily adjust the volume of their instrument during the performance. The pedal is also used to create a fading effect.
• Tremolo: This is a repetitive variation in raising the full duration of a single note. This is based on a common effect built in guitar amplifiers.
• Compressor: This is very much like an automatic volume control. The decrease in output level as incoming signal increases and vice versa.
These are the most basic, but commonly used guitar effects. There are many other more advanced you can use during performances or concerts.
