Posture sounds like a cold word, technique. But the position of a singer is a huge difference in vocal ability and effectiveness. Here are some guidelines to improve his stance during the live theatrical performance:
NO –
- DO NOT STAND rigid
NO The forward toward the audience so as to make his rib cage to tighten in front – this also causes problems with the support and breath control. If you lean forward, do so from the hips to keep the ribs open. - NO RIBCAGE Tighten your stooped over when you sing, while the guitar, keyboard, drums or other instrument.
DO —
- Stand or sit tall and flexible.
- Play the instrument with the chest open! Move the microphone with their feet and body so you can rest a bit – not forwards!
- Standing or sitting so that your weight is balanced IN YOUR BUTT.
- FEEL THE GROOVE – allow a dance-like motion of the feet, legs and spine. This is also the energy transfer to the hips and buttocks, and give as result in more breath support correct (power of the voice must come from the pelvic floor).
- Move In support MIC (causing it to lean back and open the chest) when you use a boom stand up, singing and playing. This advice is very important. If you are using a straight position is safe and close enough you do not have to lean forward and close to the ribs. Or take the job at hand and lean toward you. Or better yet, take the microphone out and use it to help to balance you. Do not lean your head to follow the microphone MIC-bring it back to you!
- Safe use BODY LANGUAGE … This is not an attitude arrogant. It is a take care of business posture tells your audience that you have something good to give them!
- Keep your head back, CHIN LEVEL, the neck is loose and when a high note, pull the head slightly to one side level.
- TALK WITH YOUR HANDS! … are connected the arms, shoulders, spine, ribs and finally the diaphragm. This is a good stage presence, too. Just make it look real … Make sure your hands are part of what you are saying or singing. Do not let it become dead weight pulling the ribs downward and inward.
The position assumed says it all. Make sure you communicate confidence, courage, freedom and connection. Not only that your audience see and hear the difference, your voice feel the difference.
